An evening series sailed off of Shilshole Marina with a large competitive fleet.  Much more competition and intensity than the evening series we sailed in 2007.

Saturday, April 12th & Sunday April 13th - CYC Puget Sound Sailing Regatta *
A two day classic 'around the buoys' regatta.  Very well attended and will be a great training ground to learn and enhance boat handling skills.  We'll likely sail between 4 to 8 races with likely two laps around each course - that's 8 to 16 - spinnaker sets, douses and mark roundings; not to mention the endless tacks, hiking and trimming.  Yeehaw!

Wednesday, April 16th - CYC Sound Wednesdays

Saturday, April 19th & Sunday April 20th - SYC Smith Island (Tri-Island Series, 1 of 3) ***
The first long distance race of the season.  In most years this race will take at least 18 to 28 hours - sometimes less, sometimes more as we sail from Seattle up to the Strait of Juan De Fuca around Smith Island (in the middle of the Strait, north of Port Townsend) and back home.  It's a long race - but that means that we'll be rotating stations including helm and that you'll get your first dose of sailing at night.  Not absolutely mandatory for Swiftsure crew, but highly encouraged.  Think of this as a somewhat shorter, more protected version of Swiftsure.

2008		 Saturday, May 3rd & Sunday May 4th - STYC Race To The Straits
This is a double handed (or single handed) race from Seattle to Port Townsend.  I think this year I'll be doing the race with Sarah, but if work or other commitments take her away, I'll be looking for an alternate.  This is a very fun race that I look forward to every year!!

Saturday, May 10th - SYC Vashon Island (Tri-Island Series, 2 of 3) **
This is the second of the Tri Island series and is another fairly long race.  If the wind isn't blowing hard, you can be finishing in at night or wee hours of the morning.  The course starts in Seattle and circumnavigates Vashon Island and finishes in Seattle.  Again, not required for Swiftsure crew but encouraged.

Saturday May 24th & Sunday May 25th - RVYC Swiftsure
This is the grand daddy of major races in the Pacific Northwest.  For our first try we'll be taking on the 2nd longest course that starts in Victoria and sails out to Neah Bay and back.  This race will likely take at least 24 to 36 hours, and requires travel (and a passport, I think).  The race is safe, although it does spend more than 90% of its time in the relatively unprotected waters of the Strait of Juan De Fuca.  Near the turning point at Neah Bay you'll be able to look out onto the horizon of the Pacific Ocean and feel ocean swells.  Because of the length of the race, sailing at night and the unprotected waters, we're emphasizing preparation and safety and are therefore asking anyone who's crewing on this race to crew on at least 3 or 4 full day races prior to this race (including either Pulley Point, Smith Island, Vashon Island).
